Lyubomir Levchev, one of the most famous Bulgarian and world poets and 2010 winner of Struga Poetry Evenings (SPE) main award, the Golden Wreath, has died in hospital in Sofia, Bulgaria, aged 84.

He was born on 29 April 1935 in the Bulgarian town of Troyan. Graduated from the Philosophy and History Faculty at Kliment Ohridski University in Sofia.

His first book, “The Stars Are Mine” was published in 1957. In total, 58 of his books have been translated and published in 36 countries around the world. He is also author of three novels, essays and film scripts.

Apart from the Golden Wreath of SPE, he received many other highly esteemed international literature and poetry awards. Among many others, that is the Golden Medal for Poetry by Académie française.
