Luljeta Lleshanaku was born in Elbasan, Albania. She studied Albanian Philology & Literature at the University of Tirana and later she attended the MFA Program in Warren Wilson College, USA. She was a fellow of “International Writing Program”,University of Iowa on 1999 and had a fellowship from the Black Mountain Institute at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on 2008-2009.
She is the author of seven volumes of poetry in Albania and eight other books published in foreign languages, such as: Haywire; New & Selected Poems; Fresco; Child of nature; Kinder der Natur; Dzieci natury; Antipastorale; Ponedjeljak u sedam dana; Lunes en Siete Días. Her poems are translated and published in anthologies and literary magazines in many languages.
She is the winner of PEN Albania 2016 (From Albanian Pen Center), National Prize “Silver Pen, 2000” for poetry, and International Kristal Vilenica Prize (International Festival of Literature, Slovenia 2009).
Her second American collection Child of Nature was one of 2011 BTBA (Best Translated Book Award) poetry finalists and her British collection Haywire: New & Selected Poems was shortlisted for the “2013 Popescu Prize” (formerly the European Poetry Translation Prize) by Poetry Society, UK.
