Josef Straka was born on 1 December 1972 in Jablonec nad Nisou and has authored two collections of poetry and…other times (G Tisk, Liberec) and Why (TVAR, Prague), which were published in the 90s, as well as four books combining poetry and prose: Hotel Bristol (2004), Mons City (2005), Church in the Mist (2008) and most recently (in September 2014) Small Exiles – all published at Cherm Publishing, Prague-Zbraslav.
He has published in numerous literary and cultural journals, both in Czechia and abroad, his texts have been translated into English, German, Polish, Serbian, Slovenian, Dutch, Hungarian, Russian, Romanian and Spanish. They are currently being translated into Portuguese and French. He’s taken part in a few international poetry, including the Treci Trg festival in Belgrade (2008), the Smederevo Poetry Autumn (Serbia, 2009), and International Prague Microfestival.
