Born into herdsman family in Ongon Dar’ganga, Sukhbaatar province, Mongolia. Men-Ooyo started writing poems when he was 13. Mend-Ooyo has graduated at the Pedagogical Institut in Mongolia, in 1978. He has written many books of poetry, narrative fiction, articles and academic papers, and these have been translated into some forty languages. One of his most important volumes, the cult novel “AltanOvoo” (Golden Hill), has gone through four editions. O.Mend-Ooyo is laureate of many poetry and literary awards from abroad including the first place winner his poem named “Moonoverold-Temple” (Los Angeles 2005). He was nominated as a candidate for NobelPrize for Literature in 2006, by initiative of the World Academy for Art and Culture, from the President Mr. Krishna Shirnavas.
