Ming Di (pen name of Mindy Zhang) is a Chinese poet and translator, author of six collections of poetry and four books in translation. She went to Boston University for graduate study in Linguistics before settling in California. She has won awards for diaspora writers, and recently a translation prize from the Poetry Foundation in 2015. She has translated four books of poetry from English into Chinese and co-translated four books from Chinese into English including Empty Chairs—Poems of Liu Xia (Graywolf Press, 2015) which was a finalist for the Best Translated Book Award in 2016. She edited and co-translated New Cathay: Contemporary Chinese Poetry (Tupelo Press, 2013); received Henry Luce Foundation Fellowships in 2013 and 2014; served as one of the five final judges of the national Poetry Out Loud in 2014; and co-curated China Focus at Poesiefestival Berlin in 2015. She is a partner for Lyrikline in Berlin and the China editor for Poetry International Rotterdam. She moderates the Beijing Translation Workshop—she divides her time between Los Angeles and Beijing.
